Taking Small Steps with Missoni Slippers

We love a good cause but a classic Missoni woven prints in a slipper??? Who does not love this? On top of being fab they are hand-crafted, made in Italy out of fabric leftovers (we wouldn’t hate to waste these beautiful Missoni woven fabrics…) and 10% of the sales of each shoe to the Small Steps Project!

Who makes them: Muzungu Sisters, a company founded by Dana Alikhani and Tatiana Santo Domingo to promote fair labour practices by showcasing artisan-crafted goods from around the world. If you ask us, a key factor in today’s business!

These sippers are their first designer collaboration done with Italian shoe designer Cecilia Bringheli’s CB (www.cbmadeinitaly.com) and Missoni who donated the fabric.

Price: £275 (around $450) without taxes or shipping, unisex from size 35-44 (can vary by style) Buy for a good cause at: http://muzungushop.motilo.com/

The project: Small Steps Project is a volunteer-based humanitarian organization borne out of a desire to provide shoes for children forced to live on municipal rubbish dumps around the world, protecting children from injury and enabling them to take small steps out of poverty. Design on a Dime!!

Last night I was at the opening of New York City’s most popular interior design benefit event organized by Housing Works.

Design on a Dime is a show where the top 50 most recognized interior designers are given a white box to recreate a room, showcase their creativity, style with new merchandise, which is donated and then sold for 50 to 70 percent off retail pricing!

Awesome pieces at the best price, but run it is madness. If you need to decorate your place or need some key pieces of furniture this is your place and all the money goes to a good cause.

Profits from the show help Housing Works “Get A Room” for homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

These are some of our finds:

My favorite room was at Pappas Miron, loved the wallpaper, pillows, fabrics and originality, what a mix! Well done Pappas Miron!!!!! (pappasmiron.com) Here is where I found my new metallic Murano crystal ashtray.

This is their booth:

Which is your favorite “room”????

The show is April 26-28.

Marrakech, land of dreams….

Marrakech charms you! The people, their humor, their warmth. The lights, the scents, the music, the food…one of those cities that you have to go at least once in a lifetime.

One of the most emblematic things is the fortified area known as The Medina, the heart of Marrakech. Make sure you go with someone that knows their way, and if not be ready to get lost in all the little streets full of vendors with the most beautiful things….Typical Moroccan hat.Inside le SoukYou then have the Djemaa el Fna, which is one of the busiests squares in Africa, you will find dancers, musicians, story tellers, food vendors, snakes…literary anything….

A typical day in the square

Something you have to see when in Marrakech is the Majorelle Garden designed by french artist Jacques Majorelle. A botanical and landscape garden famous for the diferrent cactus and many species of birds, as well as for the predominant blue.It was owned by Yves Saint Laurent since 1980 until he died in 2008, where his ashes where scattered.

This cactus is named the mother in law seat….wonder why! 😉

Another thing you can do is visit the Atlas, just 45 minutes away from Marrakech, you will have the opportunity to live an amazing experience.

When visiting, I would recommend you to stay in a Riad. They are small boutique hotels,  simple elegance.

One of the most Kool things I found was the use of candles. It’s difficult to find a bulb over there…..It’s fascinating the exquisite taste and how magnificent everything is with candle light.

Hope this made you want to go…coz it deffinetely made me want to go back! 😉
